It has long been rumoured that Tom Hiddleston would one day appear in Sherlock – we at Sherlock’s Home have spoken about him playing the alluded to third Holmes brother in the future. Finally, then, someone has asked the man himself if there is any truth in the rumour. The answer may sadden you…
Speaking to RogerEbert.com, Hiddleston was asked if he had been offered a role on Sherlock. This is what he had to say:
“No. It’s absolute nonsense. Pure speculation. Let me be the first to tell you that the creator of Sherlock, Mark Gatiss, is a friend of mine. We did Coriolanus on stage and he became a great pal. Mark has never mentioned it. If there were any truth to it, I would know it by now.”
Well, that’s a bummer. Still, just because he hasn’t been asked yet, that doesn’t mean he won’t be in future. After all, Hiddleston’s buddy Gatiss has said in the past that the actor would be “wonderful” in Sherlock.
Fingers crossed, everyone – it could still happen!
Why the dismay? So many articles speculated this, but you only had to read them to see that speculation is all it ever was. There was never a quote from Hiddleston or anyone involved with Sherlock backing up the theory. You can’t make up a rumour then act surprised when it turns out not to be a fact.
