If you are a big Benedict Cumberbatch fan, you will have no doubt already seen his latest movie Doctor Strange. It sees Benedict make his debut in the massively successful Marvel Cinematic Universe as its newest – and strangest – hero. Well, it turns out Sherlock lovers aren’t the only ones you enjoyed the film. In fact, the Sorcerer Supreme has cast a spell over the whole world, as the movie has just broken Marvel records.
This weekend, Doctor Strange passed a whopping $600 million at the global box office. This is the ninth movie from the franchise to pass this mark, something which also makes it the highest grossing single-superhero origins story yet. So that means Doctor Strange is apparently more popular than the likes of Captain America, Thor, Ant-Man, Hulk and even Iron Man – played by other Sherlock Holmes Robert Downey Jr.
Remember that this is only the start of Benedict’s Marvel journey, as he is set to join up with the rest of the Avengers for the biggest team-up movie yet in 2018 – Avengers: Infinity War. After that, Doctor Strange sequels will no doubt follow – especially considering how much of a money-maker this movie turned out to be.
If you haven’t got around to it yet – or you want to see it again – Doctor Strange is still available in cinemas worldwide.
