Filming for Sherlock series four has been going on for a few months now, and so various fan-snapped images have popped up online (some more spoiler-filled than others). Today, however, we at last got our first official image of the new series. And it seems it will feature a new crime-fighting partner for the detective. Move over John, Sherlock has found his new best friend…

If we could put on our hardcore Sherlockian hat for a moment (it’s a deerstalker, obviously), Sherlock’s new pooch pal recalls Toby, the bloodhound who helps Holmes sniff out some clues in Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Sign of the Four. Toby also appeared in animated form in Disney’s The Great Mouse Detective. Assuming that this is indeed Toby, it’s about time that he got his due in Sherlock, then!

Sherlock is set to return to our screens next January.
