4. Shakespeare
This hardcover book floating in the water is a copy of Shakespeare’s Henry V. Radio Times believe this could be a nod to the news we have all been waiting for – that Tom Hiddleston has joined Sherlock! Their theory goes that Hiddleston has played Henry in The Hollow Crown TV series, which also starred Benedict Cumberbatch as Richard III.
However, it is more likely that this is a reference to Sherlock’s famous phrase: “The Game is on.” In the books, Holmes always says “The Game’s afoot”, which is a quote from Henry V. King Henry tells his soldiers: “I see you like greyhounds in the slips, Straining upon the start: The Game is afoot: […]”
Or maybe it’s a hint that points to a Shakespearean twist (an unexpected and often ironic plot twist) in the upcoming season?
3. Is That You, Reichenbach Falls?
To the left of John, there is a new portrait that we have never seen on the walls of Baker Street before. At first glance, it appears to be a waterfall. Put this together with the water flooding the flat (which we are assuming is metaphorical), it could mean that Series Four will tackle the infamous Reichenbach Falls. The location of Sherlock and Moriarty’s final battle in the books was previously seen in Sherlock’s Mind Palace in ‘The Abominable Bride.’ Are we about to see it for real?
Well, maybe not. Upon closer inspection, the photo doesn’t depict a waterfall at all. Rather it looks like, as one Tumblr user pointed out, a cave lake. So what could that mean?
2. Moriarty’s Teacup
By Sherlock, there is what looks to be a normal teacup floating in the water. However, when you take further examination, it could be Moriartea’s (haha I’m so funny) teacup. It looks like the one he drinks from in ‘The Reichenbach Fall’ – complete with the crown on the inside.
The angle of the teacup coming out of the water also brings to mind a shark fin. It’s very easy to work out what this hint is saying: Moriarty is still lurking around somewhere, waiting for the right moment to pounce…
1. Miss Me?
You might have not seen it directly because this one is hard to spot. Next to John’s reflection in the water, is a musical score titled “Miss Me?” Like the teacup, this is most likely a hint that Moriarty is coming back. Or, alternatively, is it a reference to Mary?
Why Mary, you ask? Well, as seen on the wedding invitations in ‘The Sign of Three’, her full name is Mary Elizabeth Morstan. In other words, you could call her Miss M.E.
Miss Me.
Coincidence? I don’t think so…

A couple of these I knew about, but I hadn’t known just as many. Oh, and thank you so much for mentioning nothing of what people are thinking about Mycroft!

The “waterfall picture” is not a waterfall but Ik Kil Cenote in Mexico. It has no meaning according to Arwel Jones. This photograph has been hanging on the wall from S2 though.

The Persian slipper has a much more more direct connection to the show: it’: where Sherlock keeps his cigarettes.

And in the Abominable Bride you can see how Sherlock takes out his tobacco out of it. So why is it in the water? Is it a hint that something will happen in his mindpalace again? Or is it just speculation? Because I strongly think that Moffat and Gatiss don’t do random stuff.

Ther’s another book underwater in the forefront of the picture. It also is open upside down. Beige/brown cover, can’t tell what it is.

That’s the ‘Miss me’ music sheet.

Or could it be that wet tobacco is simply unsmoke-able?. Just a thought. Some of us have them.
