Now Sherlock is over, it’s time to look elsewhere for our Cumberbatch fix. Well, we’re in luck, as Benedict is now working on his latest film, The Current War, a biopic about famed inventor Thomas Edison. The first image of the actor in character has been released (see above).

Here’s the official synopsis too:

Set in the late 1880s, THE CURRENT WAR details the rivalry between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse and the race to create a marketable and sustainable electricity system. Edison championed the use of a direct current for electric power distribution over an alternating current, which was backed by Westinghouse Electric and a host of European companies.

Cumberbatch features alongside an all-star cast including Michael Shannon (Man of Steel), Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Katherine Waterson (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) and Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: Apocalypse). It is directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (Me, Earl and the Dying Girl). A release date has yet to be set.
